Little River Canyon

The trail crew relaxes for a picture next to the trash they pulled out of the canyon at the Adopt A Crag Day in 2001.

A nice view of the falls.

A view of one of the many walls.

Little River Canyon is located in northeast Alabama and home to steep sandstone walls and awesome whitewater kayaking. Bring an extra set of forearms if you plan on visiting the Canyon. Unfortunately, it is not the most accessible area due to hard walk (climb) ins, chossy rock, bad anchors and no guide book. But never fear, if you can handle the pump and blast your way up the walls, the local climbers will take you under their wing and make sure your taken care of.

The Southeastern Climbers Coalition is working with local climbers to address the upgrade of anchors, potential cultural and environmental resource issues along with the occasional yearly cleanup of the cliff bases.

There is no camping within Little River. There is camping at nearby Sand Rock and at nearby Desoto Falls State Park (hot showers).

Little River Cafe offers a great Americana menu (steaks and fish) and a little pickin’ and grinnin’with local guitar talents. Open only on Thursday - Sunday. Great dining at the Desoto Campground Main Conference Center. Lots of fast food and Mexican (Durango's) in Fort Payne. There are also several grocery stores in Fort Payne also.
