It is truly a special honor to welcome our new SCC Executive Director Ben Lowe. Many of you know him as a staple of the southern climbing community, and our team is truly stoked to have him take up the mission of preserving access to outdoor climbing in our region. The need for conservation efforts is greater than ever before, and our coalition continues to grow and rally to meet that need. Ben joins us at a time when strong knowledge of and personal connections with the places we climb are critical to their continued stewardship. The coalition is lucky to have someone with roots steeped in southern climbing culture stepping into this leadership role.
“For the past twenty years, I’ve been a part of the southern climbing community and I have seen first hand just what the SCC can accomplish. This grassroots organization has facilitated incredible acquisitions and changes for the better because of its backing from a passionate community. I consider it a huge privilege to be able to step into this role and help lead the organization into the coming years!”
-Ben Lowe, SCC Executive Director
From his time in the Alabama climbing scene to his leadership at the national level with USA Climbing, Ben has cultivated a wealth of experience in the outdoor industry. He has a stellar background in both the climbing business world as well as a homegrown familiarity with the boulders and cliffs that make up the DNA of climbing in our region. More than anything, it is abundantly clear that he has a deep love for the places and people that make up the diverse topography of the Southeastern Climbers Coalition. Ben is a motivated crusher that brings excellence and results to whatever organization he’s with. Whether it’s securing fundraising resources or cementing important relationships with land managers and stakeholders, we are psyched for the grit and character that Ben brings with him.
“The Board is thrilled that Ben will be stepping into the Executive Director role starting March 15th. He will be working with Kate, Caleb, and Kara to take up the reins on our ongoing access projects throughout the southeast and will hit the ground running on planning upcoming events. He will be at Triple Crown Stone Fort and the Indoor Climbing Expo this month, and will be attending events and trail days all throughout this season, so come say hi and welcome him to the SCC team!”-
